There has just so much going on that there just hasn't been enough time to punch up the latest news till now.

The Fifth Annual Ossipee Lake Open Bass Tournament Presented by OVSC (Ossipee Valley Snowmobile Club) and hosted by Westward Shores was again a success. Tourney Director Mark Fournier was happy with the turnout of both the registrants and the excited crowd of onlookers at the weigh in. "The fishing was a little dicey" said Mark Fournier because of the previous weather pattern he thought, "but the boats still came in with some nice catches". Congratulations to the participants that won some nice prizes and thanks to all that turned out for this tournament. We hope to see you all again next June.

The Fourth of July Weekend was busy for everyone. The Parade, Bocce and Horseshoes on the new courts; music on the beach Saturday night and Karaoke on Sunday night; scavenger hunts, the pancake breakfast and the fireworks. Thanks to the folks that helped put these activities on. We couldn't have done it with out you.  The weather could not have been better for boating and camping and all the fun that was to be had. We are glad that everyone had a good time and that all your visiting families and friends got home safely.

There is still plenty of summering to do on the lake and in the mountains. Be sure to check out the White Mountains Attractions Rack at the gate house. Also the new Tip Board with the goings on here at the park.

See you soon at the lake,

Mark

This Saturday is the OVSC Fifth Annual Ossipee Lake Open Bass Tournament. We are expecting a great turnout. Fishermen and woman start coming into the park at 5:30 am or so to get their boats in the water and register. The tournament fishing starts at 7:00am and ends at 3:00pm. There has been some beautiful fish at weigh ins in the past. Be sure to catch the action on the marina point at 3:15.

There are other activities planned for this weekend. Visit the gate house for info and also check the bulletin board outside the gate house.

See you soon,

Mark

BEAR ALERT: New Bear Proof Dumpsters are being installed at the park.

Campers, Please be aware that the bears are on the prowl thru out the Ossipee Valley. Even here at the park we have seen Yogi looking for picnic baskets. Remember to keep all food scraps and rubbish cleaned up. Do not leave rubbish cans outside. Use the new bear proof dumpsters for house hold rubbish only! We want a safe clean environment for our campers and their families.

See you soon at the lake,

Mark

Memorial Day Weekend was busy here at the lake. The weather was great and the water was bearable though still a little chilly. The Saturday Night beach entertainment by Pounds of Sound was fun and we will be sure to do that again soon.

Coming up in the next couple of weeks (Saturday June 19) is the Ossipee Valley Snowmobile Club Annual Bass Tournament. The turn out last year was strong and the the fish taken were impressive. Be sure to catch the weigh in on the point at around 3:30.

Summer is just starting to fire up. Please remember safety first in and around the lake. Also in the park pay attention as children are running around and riding bicycles everywhere.

See you at the lake,

Mark

The park opened May 8th as planned. A little wet weather didn't seem to dampen the spirits of campers kicking off the new summer season.

For our seasonal campers doing site clean up. Please take your leaves out to the gate house parking lot to beyond the gravel pile. You will see the leaf pile already there and growing. Please remember that large items that you want to get rid of are not the parks responsibility. We will try to make arrangements to help you but you must visit the gate house and state what you are looking to have thrown away.

Mark and Gordy worked very hard this week trying to get the docks all floating. If they aren't done they are close. Remember to see Robert at the gate house to get your dock assignments. PLEASE DO NOT JUST PARK YOUR BOAT IN ANY SLIP. THIS CAUSES US MAJOR PROBLEMS.

Please remember your boating safety for this season. Get your hull plugs in before backing down the ramp. Have a wonderful fun season boating!!!

All seasonal campers are invited to a cookout May 22. Bring your appetite and welcome back for another season at WWS.

See you at the lake,

Mark

Hi Seasonal Campers,

I sailed the inland waters of the park over the past couple of days. It looks to me that no one got water into their campers or add a rooms. Some of you may have to replace duct hose and maybe some insulation. All in all though the only critters really disrupted are the burrowing animals that have all taken to the trees.

It’s going to take quite awhile for the waters to recede and the ground to firm up. So remember the Park Is Closed till Opening Day!

The planned park opening day is Saturday May 8th .  Remember that this date is not etched in stone. Mother Nature must cooperate. The roads need to firm up so they can support traffic.  Please stay tuned to the website.

Enjoy the nice weather coming up,

Mark

Campers, We knew with the strong winters end sun that the closing of the winter season here at the park was inevitable. The 2009/2010 Winter camping season is officially closed. We hope that you all had a great time and that we can do it again next season. Think Snow for the 2010/2011 winter season!

See you all soon, Mark

The park has received some calls regarding the wild storm that affected just about all of New England. I am happy to report that the park fared well. At this time there seems to be no damage.

Soon the park will be closed for the winter season. Please remember to be prepared to NOT be able to access the park till the May opening. As soon as we decide on the last day of winter camping we will post the information right here.

Expect very difficult driving conditions in the park at all times and be prepared for them.

Sites that are not being used for winter camping are used to dump snow into.

Expect that if you are not a winter camper that your site may be full of plowed snow.

Winter camper sites, we will do our best to not plow snow into your site.

Please make sure everyone in your party understands the dangers of the lake in winter.

Also local Streams and Rivers are never safe. Moving water does not freeze solidly!

If you are a snowmobiler please visit the local snowmobile club websites for up to date information regarding riding conditions.

The OVSC Ossipee Valley Snowmobile Club maintains the trail thru the WWS Park, south and north to Conway on the rail bed and to the west thru White Lake State Park to Sandwich Notch.

The SOSSC Scrub Oak Scramblers maintains the trail system east of Lake Ossipee to Maine points that is accessed at Camp Calumet. These clubs are both all volunteer organizations promoting the family sport of snowmobiling.

Snowmobile registrations and club memberships are available at Canoe King / Allsport Autoracks on Rte 16 just north of McDonald's. Visit them for your snowmobiling outfitting needs also. They stock helmets, clothing and lubricants to just name a few.

Skiers have a wide choice of mountains to chose from that are easily accessed from WWS. Closest located on Rte 153 is King Pine Ski Area. To the North, Cranmore, Attitash and Wildcat are all local big mountains with terrain for all ability levels. If you want more information for any of these ski areas you can visit their websites. Also you may email me for even more details of each ski area and what they have to offer.

Lastly we want to remind our winter campers that the pool and hot tub facilities at Samantha's Inn are available to you thru out the winter. Also visit Sammy's Paw Print Pub for great food and a warm atmosphere for those après ski and snowmobile get togethers.

Take Care, Mark at the Lake

We also have a new way for folks to get directions to the park if they need them. Go to GOGGLE MAPS. In the SEARCH MAPS field just type (Westward Shores on Ossipee Lake). The map of the USA will pop up. Click on the Teardrop "A" that is hovering over New Hampshire and you'll have all the info you need to find us.

FYI FOR OUR CAMPERS. WWS is now able to provide Propane at an excellent group rate price. Some of our campers have already taken advantage of this opportunity. We know you will be pleasantly surprised with the price and service.
If you would like the details and the current price per gallon please e-mail
mark@wwsonossipeelake.com

We like to post information here for our campers. We do sometimes though would like to pass information directly to and only to our campers and this is not the place to do it. So....................
Would you like to be on the WESTWARD SHORES E-MAIL LIST? You'll get updates and campers only information if you send us a note letting us know that you would like to be on the list. The list is for our use only to provide our campers timely information from the lake.
Just e-mail a quick note to
mark@wwsonossipeelake.com and we will add your e-mail to our address book.
